I have come back to my blog after two years off just to say this. I am so tired of the NFL owners and players. I love football and I will miss it if they don't play, but listening to the back and forth is driving me crazy.
I am shockingly more disappointed with the players than the owners. I honestly don't care that both sides want more money. I don't care that they are both being stubborn. I DO care that they would try and get the fans support for their childish argument.
Drew Brees is one of my favorite players because of his talent and his character. However, reading his tweet telling NFL fans to not trust the owners just angered me. Then Adrian Peterson came out and said that the owners were stealing from them. I want to make this very clear to all the NFL players out there. I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU MAKE! Most people don't. Actually most people just think you make too much money. So please stop complaining to us about how you are getting lied to and ripped off.
The truth is that most NFL players make more in a year than my whole family will in our lifetimes. If they want more money, I'm ok with that. I just don't want to hear about the injustice that is happening to you.
Anyways, the owners aren't even taking the players hard earned money. They are taking the money from us . . . the fans. If Drew or other players want to win the fans over, then demand that the owners lower the price of tickets. Go and give some of your jerseys away. We pay too much money to watch you play a game so please stop complaining. Argue with the owners. Get your share. Just don't expect any sympathy from the rest of the world.

The steroids age
I wish it didn't have to be this way. I can't help but be a little pleased with myself. I hoped for a long time that the investigations into the steroids past needed to stop. I thought they needed a better prevention technique to make sure it didn't happen again, but baseball nation did not want this. Today it was released that Alex Rodriguez, the new king of baseball, tested positive for steroids in 2003. This means that once again the newest home run records will go down with an asterisk. Many players that looked to be guaranteed hall of fame inductees will now have to sit and wonder about what could have been. I have news for you. It's not going to get any better. The more they dig, the more they will realize that they waited much too long. Too many players have gone through unnoticed. You will have to completely remove the last ten years and the next ten to make sure all your precious statistics are legitimate.
Here is my solution. Granted I don't know enough but I feel like it is going to get worse. Don't exclude the players achievements because they used steroids. Yes they got bigger than those guys from the glory days, but the defenders are bigger too. Roger Clemens proves that it is not only the hitters who are juicing up. The hitters are hitting against bigger, stronger, and faster pitchers as well. Stop the witch hunt and just let baseball be baseball.

A long year
Apparently I seemed to have forgotten that I had this spot to write about all of my thoughts on sports. Well I am back with a few end of the year comments.
My last post stated that the New England Patriots would win the Super Bowl. Okay, I got that one wrong. It was a great game and the Giants deserved it. The Celtics won the NBA championship, lead by MVP Paul Pierce. The Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series. Kansas took home college basketball's crown, and Florida beat Oklahoma to win the BCS national championship game.
Finally the sports year ended (0r started depending on how you look at it) with Super Bowl 43. It was almost a great one. I'm sorry Steeler fans, but the Cardinals deserved this one. The game had everything it needed to pass last years thriller as the greatest of all time. It had the perennial power Pittsburgh Steelers. It had the very entertaining underdogs in the Arizona Cardinals. It had the rebirth of Kurt Warner, who always makes for a great story. It had a great defense, a great offense, and a few last minute scores to seal the deal. It almost had the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. However, the game was overshadowed by the wrong call and the lack of a review on sport's biggest stage.
Kurt Warner is known for being a "good guy." His humble attitude and generous heart seperate him from most of the attention grabbing NFL. He doesn't insult refs, and he always gives credit to the opposition. Yet you could tell by his tone and the slight hints that even he knew his arm was going forward. The referees called a fumble and the Cardinals lost the game. Replays seemed to show that Warner's arm was in the forward motion when the ball came loose. As a matter of fact he held on after the initial hit and released it right before he fell to the ground. The play should have been ruled an incomplete pass. The true injustice was that the call did not get a second look. Only the booth can review in the last two minutes and they were silent as the Steelers went on to steal their sixth championship. I know that even if the play was overturned it still would have required a miracle to score the game winner, but . . . I take Larry Fitzgerald in a jump ball anyday. Even if the Steelers knocked it down, or picked it off, the "fumble" should not have ended it. I guess we will never know what might have happened had the referees taken the time to make sure they made the right call in the biggest game of the year.

Superbowl
It is the night before the biggest game of the year and I thought I should post a few quick thoughts on the Super Bowl which features the favorite to win, New England Patriots, and the underdogs, New York Giants. This year is really mixing me up. If the Giants were in the same situation in any other year I would pick them to win because they come in with too mjuch momentum. However the Patriots are playing for perfection in 19-0 which has only been done once before. Nerves will probably take a bigger effect on the Giants because the Pats have been here before. The Giants also have more room to grow though because the Pats have been playing their best every game going for perfection. I think I will pick the Patriots in a much closer game than expected. I'm going to say it will come down to a late drive and the Patriots will pull off the final points late. However, if the Giants win, I would not be surprised at all.

Why I love 'em
I am currently watching the Kings Jazz game and realizing that some people would say I am obsessed with the whole sports scene. Actually that comment is 100% true. However, I want everyone to understand why I am such a sports fanatic. Let me give you a few reasons:
1) I am ultra competitive and love to play the games and love to see a team I think/want to win win.
2) I somehow find a way to connect myself to the people playing the game. When I pick a team to root for I feel like I am somehow a part of the organization. I then connect myself in a way that others don't. When the team wins I am probably as happy as the players, coaches, owners, and other personnel. When they lose I might be more upset. I don't understand why I take the game so personally but I guess I am just passionate. Secretly I just want to be one of them so I have learned to at least feel their emotions.
3) The more you watch or do something the more you are going to appreciate it. As I continue to play and watch sports my love for the games continues to grow. I appreciate the ability of the athletes I watch and become more competitive when I play. Others are the same way they just have different passions. For example, a musician becomes a greater fan because they understand the talent of other musicians more than a casual listener would. The more movies you see the more you understand good acting and film shooting and editing. If you read a lot you will see more literary tools and understand how powerful they can be. If you play and watch sports you understand how impressive what these people do really is.
All that said my love for sports is still a little crazy. I think I almost died when the Kings came about a shot away from an NBA championship. When my teams, the Kings, 49ers, Giants, and Cal Bears (football) lose, I am going to be in a bad mood. If they win well I will have a good day. If they ever win another championship . . . I don't know what I will do. Hopefully we will find out soon.

Championship Sunday
The divisional rounds are over and Sunday is the NFL's AFC and NFC championship games. The AFC matches the surprise San Diego Chargers at the New England Patriots. The Chargers are the second hottest team in football right now and could probably beat anyone, except the Patriots. The Chargers got too beat up against the Colts. Their three best players are going to be playing hurt. However they are going to lose because Nate Kaeding, the Charger's kicker, cannot make a field goal in the playoffs. The Chargers will keep this game surprisingly close though. In the NFC the New York Giants will go to Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers. The Giants are the hottest team right now after pulling two consecutive upsets over the Buccaneers and the Cowboys. However Green Bay is just too good. Ryan Grant is going to be a superstar running back and Brett Favre is possibly the best ever. Eli Manning, the Giants quarterback, will not be able to keep up under this kind of pressure. The Giants defense could keep them in it, but ultimately the Packers have too many weapons. The Packers and the Patriots will be a great match-up in the Super bowl.

NFL Divisional Round
This weekend is the NFL's divisional playoff round. There are some great matchups this week. The Patriots meet a team that has great upset possibilities in the Jaguars. The Jags will have to play better than they did last week against Pittsburgh if they want to win this game though. I still like the Patriots to win it all so I would pick them. Staying in the AFC the Chargers will meet the Colts. Without Antonio Gates, who is hurt, I don't think San Diego can beat the defending champs in Indianapolis. I got the Colts winning this one and setting up a great AFC championship between them and New England. Seattle goes into Green Bay with some quiet momentum. I got Green Bay pulling it off. In the other NFC game I see no reason why the Cowboys would lose to a team they have already beat twice this season. However, without Owens anything can happen. I'm going to be a little crazy and say the Giants will get the upset. They have a lot of momentum and I just don't really like the Cowboys. Well those are my picks for this week.
